At Spannenberg & Son, we don’t do cookie-cutter solutions. Every project is as unique as the family it’s for. We’re here to listen, design, and build to match your vision, just like we did for Greg.
“We had spoken with a few builders about building a 1st floor extension with all of them wanting to sell us a standard floor plan, and then Scott and his team at Spannenberg & Son were recommended to us. From the very first meeting with Scott, he took the time to understand what we wanted and came up with a design to meet that. Patrick did a fantastic job managing the build in awful weather, while Dan, his team, and the other trades, finished the job to an impeccably high standard. Communication was fantastic, nothing was ever too hard, and everyone regularly on site is super friendly – the type of person you’d be happy to invite into your home. We cannot recommend them enough.”
Renovating your home can be exciting and rewarding, but it’s easy to make mistakes. Here’s a guide to help you avoid them:
#1
Putting cost Before quaility
Cheap often means sacrificing quality and this can also be quality of service not just products or build quality. Set a realistic budget and focus on the best materials and labour you can afford. Remember, a home built to last decades is worth the investment.
#2
Inadequate builder research
Choose a licensed, insured and reliable builder, choose a builder with the relevant experience in the specialist type of building work you are undertaking. Ask lots of questions and check their history, experience and testimonials. A best practice builder will put tyour needs first and maintain open communication.
#3
Failing to assemble your team from the start
Engage your builder at the design stage. Bringing your architect, builder and designer together from the starthelkps budgeting and preventing setbacks.
#4
Failing to review contracts
Read and double-check your contracts. Ensure all details, cost projections, plans, schedule and variations are clearly outlined. This avoids misunderstandings and headaches later.
#5
Rushing the process
Take time with the planning phase. It’s easier and cheaper to make changes on paper than during construction. Don’t rush decisions; cutting corners can lead to disappointment.

Consider renovating as an alternative to knock down rebuild, approval time is often significantly reduced and build time likely 6 months not 18 months.
